Biomonitor’s management team comprises of the founders, Arsalan Kharazmi and Klaus Bendtzen. Under their leadership and management, Biomonitor has experienced fast growth and achieved important milestones during a short life period.
Arsalan Kharazmi, CEO & Co-founder
Dr. Kharazmi is CEO of Biomonitor and is responsible for the management and day-to-day operations of the company. Prior to Biomonitor, Dr. Kharazmi was co-founder and CEO of LICA Pharmaceuticals A/S since year 2000. Dr. Kharazmi was Head of Research at the Department of Clinical Microbiology at Copenhagen University Hospital (Rigshospitalet), where he during 25 years managed a large number of major international research projects. He holds a PhD in microbiology from the University of California at Davis, USA and has published more than 200 scientific papers in the fields of infection, immunity and drug discovery.
Klaus Bendtzen, CSO & Co-founder
Dr. Bendtzen is CSO of Biomonitor and responsible for the developing the scientific foundation of the company. As Chief Physician and Professor of Inflammation at the Copenhagen University Hospital (Rigshospitalet), Dr. Bendtzen founded the Institute for Inflammation Research (IIR) in 1995. He served as Head of Copenhagen Biotechnology research Centre and was President of the Danish Society for Immunology from 1997 to 2002. He has also been an active consultant for the biopharmaceutical industry in Denmark and abroad. Biomonitor A/S was founded in 2003 on his initiative and on the basis of his scientific work. Dr. Bendtzen is a medical doctor holding a DMSc degree from the University of Copenhagen. He has extensive clinical and research experience and has published more than 500 papers within the fields of inflammation, clinical immunology, immunopharmacology and cytokinology. He was among the first to characterize the physiology and multifunctionality of several pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines including TNF-alpha/beta and interleukin-1.
